We are seeking a Scientist to join our team to develop assays to enable the functional evaluation of RNA and DNA engineering in cells. This individual will use their expertise of molecular and cellular biology to design and implement in vitro and in vivo assays for RNA and DNA genome modification systems. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in technology development, experience with studying and correcting genetic diseases in vitro and in vivo and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement in vitro and in vivo assays for functional evaluation of genome and transcriptome engineering systems

• Identify lead candidates via a combination of DNA, RNA, protein, and other disease-specific functional analyses

• Work to continually improve throughput, dynamic range or sensitivity, and robustness of assays

• Collaborate closely with downstream therapeutic area specialists, process, quality, and analytical teams, as well as with upstream protein and RNA engineering teams to identify opportunities for adapting assays to screening applications, including possibly automated platforms

• Experimental prowess in RNA, DNA, and Protein assays

• Assay development and improvement experience

• Experience with primary cell tissue culture and in vivo rodent studies

• Familiarity with scientific software for analyzing and reporting data

• Commitment to rigor in scientific research

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to think creatively and work collaboratively in a matrixed environment

Education / Experience:

• PhD or equivalent in Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Synthetic Biology, Cell Design or Engineering, Molecular or Cell Biology or a related discipline

• Genetic disease model expertise using tissue culture, primary patient cells, and/or animal models

• Experience developing functional genomic screens (e.g. CRISPRn, CRISPRi, CRISPRa, shRNA, siRNA)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient in NGS library preparation, sequencing, and analysis

• Proficiency in Python, R, and analysis of genome-scale data

• Research interests and direct experience in genetic disease, immunology or neurobiology

 • Experience with cytometry, microscopy and/or high content imaging
