Assistant Controller

Job Description
- Start Date: June 1st
- Salary: $160K–$195K
- Full-time, onsite in Chicago
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for a wide variety of critical functions in the finance organization. The primary focus is on managing and executing the Company’s monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes. This includes being a key liaison to external auditors, tax compliance consultants, and functional business leads. Also, assisting in the design, execution, and monitoring of effective internal controls. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role will also support the Company’s growth by assisting with implementing and/or driving key operational and compliance activities as needed. Examples may include fleet administration, transparency reporting, travel and expense administration, corporate credit card administration, and potentially revenue accounting including sales deductions in coordination with Accounting team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Evaluate newly issued technical accounting guidance, assessing applicability to the Company, documenting the Company’s position and recommending implementation of such guidance
- Lead and execute month-end general ledger close process, including completing account reconciliations and ensuring accruals and balances are supported by objective third party documentation whenever possible
- Assist with the implementation and/or modification of the ERP or similar software depending on business requirements
- Support Corporate Controller and external consultants in coordinating the annual independent audit and federal and state income tax returns
- Assist with implementing and/or lead travel and expense reimbursement processes, transparency reporting, corporate credit card program, and fleet administration
- Collaborate with others in the organization to implement and execute potential key revenue accounting processes as needed, including estimating and recording gross-to-net sales discounts
- Ensure compliance with the Company’s internal controls and relevant policies and procedures in accordance with the industry’s best practices and legal regulations, identify and remediate exceptions as needed
- Identify areas for process improvement and implement approved solutions
- Partner with Accounting Operations team to leverage their expertise, including sharing best practices and thoughts to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs in areas including accounts payable, treasury, payroll, and intercompany transactions
- Collaborate with the FP&A function on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Partner with all functions to support the Company’s strategic initiatives, decision-making processes, and compliance with finance policies
- Act as a liaison to ensure proper financial processes are followed across the company
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 8+ years relevant experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to communicate cross-functionally,
- Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- CPA
- Experience in life sciences industry, and particularly biopharmaceuticals
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics or Microsoft Business Central ERP systems
- Ability to manage complex accounting processes
