Job Description
The Associate Scientist is responsible for performing assigned tasks to support the operational scale up of Pilot-scale manufacturing processes for the company' sbiotherapeutic candidates. The Associate Scientist will work routinely in collaboration with other members of Pilot Plant Operations and with Process Development.
You will be responsible for:
- Support of pilot scale operations at up to 500L bioreactor and corresponding downstream purification process including upstream mammalian cell culture, downstream purification steps, and buffer preparation operations for production of biologics
- Assisting in laboratory management including maintenance of lab and pilot scale equipment, set up and cleanup activities
- Documenting results in electronic notebooks, paper forms, and technical reports
- Availability during standard working hours is expected as well as occasional after hours, shift work or weekend work as may be necessary.
You will need to have:
- BS degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline from an accredited university
- 0-2 years of relevant laboratory or industry experience. Proficiency in following various laboratory and manufacturing operating and safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within established timelines;
- Ability to provide creative solutions and to perform tasks accurately and reproducibly
- Understands/acts on priority of assigned tasks under direct supervision
- Proficiency with MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- The duties of this role are conducted in a laboratory environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry up to 30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others.
- Some experience with biologics manufacturing or research with primary focus on mammalian cell culture.
- Basic laboratory skills (i.e.: pipetting/volumetric measurements, weighing components, pH/conductivity measurements)
