Scientist, Metabolic and Inflammatory Diseases Discovery

The Cardio-metabolic Disease (CMD) therapeutic area within Discovery Research is seeking to recruit an experienced Research Associate that is highly motivated and with a track record of drug discovery experience, preferably in the area of metabolic and / or inflammatory diseases. The location will be the preclinical research laboratories at our new state of the art facility in the South San Francisco Bay Area, where you will be able to participate in a vibrant culture connecting world leading academic and biotech research centers. Beyond local connections, you will also be able to supplement your research activities by taking advantage of the technologies and capabilities of the wider network of sites.

Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate capability in the laboratory in the design, plan, and execution of in vitro and/or in vivo experiments and provide scientific and technical input into the CMD portfolio.
  • The individual will be expected to balance work on multiple projects in support of our drug discovery and development goals at various stages of the preclinical research phase from target validation to lead optimization.
  • The individual should be highly self-motivated, possess strong technical skills, have strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to work productively in a collaborative and cross functional team environment within and outside of the Research Laboratories.
  • Relevant areas of training may include one or more of the following areas: metabolic complications, chronic inflammation, obesity, NASH and cardiovascular diseases.
Qualifications:
Education:
• BS/BA degree with at least 5 years or MS degree with 2+ years or Ph.D with 1+ year of industry experience, in pharmacology, cell biology or related discipline with in vitro assay experience.

Required Experience:
• Proven track record in biological science training in areas such as biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology and cell-based assay
• Experience in one or more of the following disease areas; cardiometabolic diseases, diabetic complications, obesity, chronic inflammatory diseases and fibrosis
• Experience in the development of cell-based assays with proficiency in standard luminescence-/fluorescence- based readouts in primary and cultured cells
• Experience with modern molecular biology techniques (e.g. ELISA, MSD, qPCR) is ideal
• Manage the design, planning and execution of robust scientific research activities is required
• Demonstrates strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to communicate ideas, objectives and results
• Successful candidate must be able to collaborate in an integrated, multidisciplinary team environment
• Strong analytical and computer skills are required, including proficiency with basic data analysis programs (Excel, GraphPad Prism) and application of statistics

Preferred Experience:
• Strong grasp of basic pharmacological concepts (potency, efficacy, etc.)
• General familiarity with pharmaceutical drug discovery
• Skilled in high content biochemical and/or cell-based assays
• Prior biopharmaceutical industry experience
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
• Ability to think strategically and deliver results
• Working experience in metabolic and inflammatory pathways
• Demonstrated ability to perform standard procedures in rodent models


Pay Range: 35-45/hr
Salary will be commensurate with experience
