The Genomic Research Center (GRC) Genomic Technologies (GTECH) department is seeking to hire an Associate Scientist 1 to support and drive existing nucleic acid isolation technologies to our increase throughput and decrease turnaround times for the delivery of clinical and discovery molecular investigations supported by GTECH and the GRC. The successful candidate will be part of the GTECH Biobanking team, and dedicated to performing sample organization, nucleic acid extraction workflows, quality control workflows with interpretation, and normalization of nucleic acids delivered to downstream GTECH molecular teams. The GTECH team supports genomic data generation from multiple sample sources. Thusly, the Biobanking team routinely isolates nucleic acids from sources including but not limited to human and animal: whole blood, tissues, biofluids, and cell pellets. To meet the demand and standardize workflows for isolating nucleic acids, the Biobanking team utilizes the following high and low throughput automated nucleic acid extraction platforms: Qiagen, Autogen, and Promega. The Biobanking team additionally utilizes expertise to execute customized manual isolation workflows for precious, limited, or difficult sample types. The successful candidate will work within the Biobanking team and closely collaborate with the other downstream GTECH molecular workflow teams. The primary functions of this role in the GTECH Biobanking team is to execute sample organization, drive high sample volume and custom nucleic acid isolations, perform quality control assays with interpretation, utilize basic math skills to perform nucleic acid normalization, and generate biobanking reports.
