Confidential Retained Search: Chief Scientific Officer 
On behalf of our client, an early stage start-up focused on the development of a next generation gene therapy platform producing AAV based products, we are conducting a retained search for a Chief Scientific Officer, reporting directly to the CEO.  

This is a rare opportunity to be an architect of an early stage biotech start-up. Through providing scientific vision and leadership across research, discovery, and translational development - the CSO will play a strategic role in setting and achieving the scientific goals of the organization. 

You should have a demonstrable history of advancing gene therapies through clinical development, as well as an experienced leader with high EQ and a passion for developing people in addition to life changing products for our patients. Excellent understanding of both scientific and regulatory requirements related to gene therapy clinical development, manufacturing and quality is required.


The CSO will be a key contributor in external communication such as with industry leaders and the investor community, particularly as it relates to communicating the scientific strategy to assist in securing future funding rounds. 

This role will suit a highly motivated and dynamic, hands on individual who understands what it takes to succeed in a start up environment, to lead and expand an incredibly talented team of scientists. 

This is a critical scientific hire for this early stage company, and a very rare opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the organizations success. 
  • Must be based in: San Francisco / SSF / Bay Area / Berkeley CA.
  • PhD or equivalent industry experience is required.
