Principal Role

The Direct Materials Requirements Planner is responsible for planning and buying of GMP direct materials for Vacaville manufacturing. This person has planning buying accountability while considering the overall smooth flow of E2E process, for the assigned products and material categories. The Direct Material Requirements Planner is accountable for ensuring quality supply of direct materials to support production from planning to execution. This position is a key interface between Production Planning, Site Scheduling, Logistics, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers, and has the responsibility of balancing the site's operational capacity and requirements while working under the guidance/ direction of the Head of Planning.

The Direct Materials Requirements Planner must be able to build and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and participate/lead discussions, problem solving efforts and process improvements to ensure that performance targets are met or exceeded. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Based on department and business needs, the Direct Materials Requirements Planner can be responsible for all or a subset of the following:

Performance Monitoring
  • Provide input into the performance process for SDP (Supplier Delivery Performance) for assigned products together with Procurement.

Assess Planning
  • Coordinate planning meetings and discussions with suppliers to review forecasts and capacity to understand ability to meet requirements
  • Provide planning assumptions to Supply Planners to correctly represent capabilities in Planning system

Manage Inventory
  • Perform inventory analysis. Perform proactive inventory allowance and write off avoidance and coordination
  • Ensure correct and compliant set-up of material flow of direct material to support production needs
  • Monitor status of inventory for assigned categories at the site to ensure efficient usage and on-time delivery
  • Ensure right level of direct materials inventory in collaboration with supplier and site

Master Data
  • For assigned category, provide input into material code creation, maintenance and retirement with respective Master Data organization and procurement

Manage Stakeholder Relationships
  • Represent direct material aspects within different forums and support supplier meetings of the assigned materials
  • Participate on direct material category teams and support strategic initiatives - sourcing changes, strategic purchases, savings initiatives, lead-time reductions, life cycle management, SKU rationalization, supply chain optimization, and waste reduction
  • Proactively partner with Master Production Planners, Site Schedulers, Warehouse, Procurement, QC, QA, and Suppliers to communicate and address supply issues and ensure materials are available on time to support operations

Manage Schedule and Forecast
  • Own and manage scheduling and planning of production for the assigned materials based on forecasts, supplier capacity, category strategies
  • Support procurement to ensure adherence to overall contractual commitments with respect to supply chain
  • Establish MOQ in collaboration with Supply Chain stakeholders and suppliers

Order Management
  • Perform transactions related to order conversion, managing sales and purchase orders, order changes, receiving material, managing returns in collaboration/ with the support from procurement
  • Provide proactive information to Supply Chain stakeholders in case the defined delivery lead times are not met
  • Review MRP exception messages daily and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of supply

Projects and Others
  • Participate in assigned site project implementations
  • Participate in projects and business process improvements for supply chain and cross-functional projects to achieve business goals and objectives
  • Ensure compliance of processes including Delegation of Authority

Education & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Supply Chain Management, Procurement and/ or Buying Planning, Category management in pharmaceutical/ other industry
  • Bachelor degree in life science, business, industrial engineering or equivalent required
  • Six Sigma certification (green belt) a plus
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP
  • Project Management experience a plus

  • Strong verbal and written communication in English, further languages a plus
  • Strong ability to influence and negotiate win/win solutions both within and across organizations
  • Applies a complete understanding of Biotech/pharmaceutical industry standards, supply chain and GMP manufacturing practices to independently address a broad range of difficult problems
  • Exhibit continuous improvement mindset and innovative thinking
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully utilize established business processes and systems
  • Ability to identify the key issues of a problem, approach problem solving analytically and systematically to reach optimal solutions and implement plans of action

  • Work is performed under limited direction and guidance, with general instructions on new assignments
  • Participate in developing course of action that may impact multiple functions in the organization.

Pay Rate Range: $30-59/hr. Salary will be commensurate with experience
