Lab Technician, Discovery Research (part-time)
2630 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA 94704 US
Job Description
We are developing a new category of drugs, Synthetic D-Proteins, to overcome the limitations of current drug modalities. Synthetic D-Proteins exhibit antibody-like specificity to a single therapeutic target but with the broad distribution of small molecules, all while being otherwise “invisible” to the rest of the body. The consequences are that we can deliver sustained antibody-like activity specifically to interstitial targets, enable oral delivery with complete metabolic stability, and extend therapeutic durability with no immunogenicity. We are focusing on debilitating diseases where significant unmet need remains due to the limitations of current drugs.
We are looking for a curious, driven, and self-motivated Laboratory Technician for part-time work in the Discovery Research Group. The successful candidate will report to a Principal Scientist to provide laboratory support for research experiments. Responsibilities will include assisting with tissue culture, performing basic protein binding ELISAs, and helping with lab operations.
The technician’s role will be onsite based at Bakar Labs BioEnginuity Hub, located at the UC Berkeley campus.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Research Team to maintain cell lines in the tissue culture facility.
- Assist with lab operations, including sample preparation, buffer making, and package pickup.
- Conduct established protein binding assays (ELISAs) to characterize proteins.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a lab environment, either academic or industry. Laboratory classwork is not considered for this role.
- Experience with tissue culture is highly preferred.
- BS or equivalent degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related; or on-track for completion of degree.
- Ability to commit to 10-15 hours per week, 8-6 PM Monday – Friday, including during the fall semester.
- Great organizational, record keeping, and communication skills; ability to communicate data clearly in a group setting
- Proficiency with data analysis software (Excel, GraphPad Prism or other graphing programs)
