Job Description
With a focus on in-house biological studies and academic collaboration in clinical settings, the Laboratory/Research Technician provides scientific support and skill sets in laboratory operations in the field of stem cell research. This role requires a self-motivated individual with relevant experience in scientific operations: conducts biological experiments such as cell culture, including medium preparation and media change; organizes collected data in collaboration with research scientists; and provides support with a wide range of duties and tasks related to overseeing the routine operations of a scientific laboratory.
Essential Functions:
· Cultures induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
· Differentiates the neuronal organoid from iPS cells in culture.
· Operates specialized biological assays, tests, and studies in molecular biology, cell culture, small molecule screening, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, etc.
· Supports with tissue handling, sectioning, and processing for immunofluorescence imaging.
· Produces and formulates media batches for routine cell culture and reagent testing from established protocols.
· Acquires microscopy images from processed samples.
· Organizes the collected data and pictures.
· Assists research scientists to develop experimental protocols and procedures.
· Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, such as safe handling of biohazard materials and toxic chemical substances; conducts laboratory inspections as necessary.
· Monitors, organizes, stocks, receives, tracks inventory, and orders supplies (chemicals, reagents, personal protective equipment, etc.).
· Oversees the cleaning and sanitization of the laboratory; ensures all equipment and instruments function correctly and maintenance of said equipment as necessary.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
· A bachelor's degree in basic or life science is required; a master's degree is desirable.
· Minimum 3 years of experience in biological research with mammalian cell culture and immunohistochemistry; experience with ES cell/iPS cell culture and neural organoid culture is preferred.
· Management skills in operating the laboratory smoothly by scheduling staff, tracking and monitoring equipment, replenishing supplies, and maintaining all security protocols and standards.
· Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including non-technical colleagues.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail.
· Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, as well as stand, sit, reach, and kneel for laboratory organization and inventory control tasks, such as receiving consumables and reagents, restocking, etc.
This is a part-time role (24 hours/ week) to support lab work on site 3 days a week.
Pay ranges between $22-24.30/hr based on experience
