Job Description
The responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working effectively within the group to meet department goals and objectives.
- Responsible for executing glass wash and equipment preparation activities.
- Cleaning, sterilizing, preparing, and distributing glassware and equipment.
- Operating process equipment, including autoclaves, washers, ovens, tanks, and benchtop instruments.
- Producing microbiological media, cell culture media, various solutions, buffers, and preparing clean glassware and equipment for use across GMP and/or R&D groups.
- Preparation of stock such as reagents, buffers, microbiological, tissue culture, and requested media as needed.
- Working with the Supervisor and Lead Technician (as applicable) to prioritize tasks and assignments, making recommendations to maximize efficiency and productivity based on team needs.
- Supporting the team by providing training and technical assistance.
- Demonstrating technical expertise and strength, including mastery of equipment and instruments used.
- Partnering with Media Prep Lab Services groups across campus to share best practices.
- Demonstrating proficiency in all required training activities.
- Acting as a resource to the team and assisting technicians in resolving technical issues.
- Adhering to and reinforcing GMP practices with other technicians, as applicable.
- Maximizing equipment utilization and ensuring conformance with customers' needs.
- Maximizing production output including documentation and labor efficiency while meeting required safety and quality levels.
- Working effectively within the team and department through collaboration and teamwork to complete assigned tasks.
- Involving the Lead (as applicable) and the Supervisor when events and decisions may impact safety or production.
- Voicing opinions constructively while actively supporting and implementing agreed-upon goals and decisions.
- Promoting an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation by assisting the Lead (as applicable) and the Supervisor in recognizing potential conflicts and offering to help team members.
- Ensuring that safety is the highest priority by adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Effectively responding to safety incidents and immediately notifying supervisors of safety incidents and hazards.
- Meeting all compliance requirements for training and supporting the team to create and ensure a safer work environment.
- Assisting in reinforcing safety practices and providing safety training to other technicians.
- Helping monitor the team's adherence to Internal Procedures (IPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and departmental procedures.
- Ensuring that the work of the team is completed by the end of the day.
- Helping resolve operational issues as they arise.
- Participating in process improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrating professional conduct when communicating with peers, customers, and supervisors.
- Providing routine updates to the Supervisor on progress, status, and issues associated with assigned tasks.
- Authoring or revising Internal Procedures or Standard Operating Procedures (as applicable).
- Communicating with customers in a professional manner.
- Building strong communication and collaboration channels with stakeholder groups and individuals.
- Ensuring appropriate levels of glassware inventory in all areas of operations.
- Providing a positive example through technical proficiency, quality and GMP adherence (as applicable), teamwork, and productivity.
- Effectively influencing others to achieve goals.
- Assisting the team in assigning tasks and coordinating team events in alignment with department needs.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED and one of the following:
- Completion of college-level coursework in biological sciences and/or physical sciences.
- AA/AS Degree in a related science major.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Strong background in media prep, glassware operations, or related operational environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with sterilizing/cleaning equipment is required.
- Passion for continuous process improvement; LEAN or other Operational Excellence training and experience a plus.
- Interpersonal, communication, organizational skills: proven abilities to work effectively and efficiently in teams.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Successful demonstration of collaboration and teamwork.
- Customer service orientation.
- Self-starter with a strong focus on quality, attention to detail, and delivering results.
- Ability to work weekends, off-shift, and overtime as required.
- Ability to provide technical support and training for new technicians.
- Computer skills: ability to operate computers to enter work orders, purchase orders, notifications, etc.
- Ability to lift 40lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Pay Rate Range: $20-24/hr. Salary will be commensurate with experience
