Protein Engineering Scientist

We are seeking a Scientist to join our team to develop new approaches to engineering RNA and DNA in cells. This individual will focus on both the design and optimization of genetic medicines to target specific diseases, and on the delivery of these therapeutic payloads to the appropriate tissues. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in technology development, experience with diverse technologies and disciplines, and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Establish engineering pipelines for genome and transcriptome modulation efforts

• Design and deploy workflows for rational engineering of Proteins and RNA sequences to identify improved variants

• Develop functional screens, library generation, directed evolution experiments, etc. using all protein and RNA engineering techniques

• Data and hypothesis driven design improvements as a part of a Design-Build-Test-Learn cycle

• Optimization based on in vivo delivery approaches

 

Qualifications/Skills:

• Experimental prowess in library design and screening

• Familiarity with scientific software for analyzing and designing proteins

• Experience with successfully changing or improving the behavior of proteins in cells

• Comfortable with multiple mammalian protein and nucleic acid expression techniques

• NGS library preparation, sequencing, and analysis

• Commitment to rigor in scientific research

• Ability to communicate complex scientific issues in a logical and coherent manner

• Highly collaborative and team-oriented

 

 

Education / Experience:

• PhD or equivalent in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Synthetic Biology, Cell Design or Engineering, Physics,

Molecular or Cell Biology or a related discipline

• Meaningful experience with high-throughput molecular or synthetic biology and background in mammalian protein and/or RNA engineering

• Experience developing functional genomic screens (e.g. CRISPRn, CRISPRi, CRISPRa, shRNA, siRNA)

• Background in the engineering of genome editing and transcriptional regulation systems (e.g. CRISPRn,

CRISPRi, CRISPRa, RNAi, shRNA, etc.)

• Experience in mammalian synthetic biology and pathway engineering

• Familiarity with NGS library preparation, sequencing, and analysis

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Python, R, and analysis of genome-scale data

• Expertise with multiple high-throughput and pooled screening approaches, and associated molecular tools

• Research interests in genetic disease, immunology or neurobiology

• Experience with cytometry, confocal microscopy and/or high content imaging

• Demonstrated expertise in high-throughput assay development and automation
