Job Description    
A qualified and motivated scientist to join a team developing oncology molecular diagnostics assays. The individual will conduct experimentation and make measurements utilizing multiple techniques; investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods, processes or techniques to address project needs. He or she will work as part of an R&D team and additionally could interface with other departments (i.e., Marketing, Business Development, Technical Service and/or Operations) in support of product development and improvement. The successful candidate must have strong analytical, written and communication skills, and a solid track record of product development and/or applied research.   
Primary Job Functions and Responsibilities: 
•    Conduct experiments for characterization and verification of in vitro diagnostic medical devices generating data for regulatory submissions. 
•    Analyze, summarize data, interpret results and draw conclusions. Document results in compliance with Abbott Quality System requirements.
•    Work independently and as part of a team; complete tasks on time to meet project timelines.
•    Enumerate fluorescent in situ hybridizations using fluorescent microscopy.
•    Follow lab safety requirement and Good Laboratory Practices.
•    Draft study protocols and records.
•    Provide input to experimental design.
•    Present scientific observations to others. 
•    Understand and consistently follow documented procedures.
•    May assume additional roles, such as routine laboratory/equipment maintenance.


Grade level will be commensurate with experience.
Position Accountability / Scope:
Support projects within the R&D group responsible for fluorescent in situ hybridization assays product development and improvement.


Basic Qualifications
•    Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple and changing projects and priorities
•    Strong analytical and quantitative skills
•    Desire to work within a team and demonstrated ability to adapt to changing needs consistent with demands of the workgroup

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Knowledge of fluorescence in situ hybridization technique and fluorescent microscopy.
•    Experience in developing a companion diagnostic device and generating data for a FDA submission.
•    Experience with solid tumor and/or cytology FISH assays.
•    Experience with imaging systems and analysis software for solid tumor analysis
•    Knowledge of statistical data analysis and Design of Experiment (DOE) methodology is a plus.
•    Experience working under the Design Control requirements

Minimum Education:
•    B.S. /M.S. in life or physical science with 2 - 10 years of work experience, preferably in an industry.
