Job Description
Description Purpose:
The Formulation Development Assistant Scientist performs the design and development of solid/liquid/semisolid & novel drug delivery dosage forms for the Consumer Health categories under supervision.
Conducts hands-on laboratory work according to agreed upon timeline and at a high level of quality
Supports multiple projects and is responsible for prioritizing activities to effectively and efficiently deliver on commitments.
Plays active role in contributing to innovation by actively turning ideas/concepts into prototypes, evaluating external new technologies and drug delivery, and presenting new products ideas to commercial teams.
Key Tasks:
- Under supervision performs execution of Formulation development activities by:
- Performing hands on execution of experiments in laboratory such as
- Prototyping
- Material Characterization (product and ingredients)
- Accelerated Stability Studies to screen prototypes
- Quality by Design - Design of Experiments Execution
- Initial Process Design
- Drafting Formulation Development Reports
- Helps execute Formulation Development strategy for assigned projects
- Solves technical problems by application of scientific knowledge and creative thinking, creating simple, cost effective and compliant solutions.
- Clearly identifies and escalates formulation issues to supervisor and project team
- Tests potential formulations by:
- Working with cross-functional project team to determine experimental and stability test requirements
- Reviewing with cross-functional project team on data and conclusions for product testing and stability
- Supports laboratory activities
- Formulation equipment owner as a subject matter expert
- Raw Material Ordering and Naming
- Ensure equipment is in working order
- Participates in Innovation activities by:
- Making prototypes for proposed ideas and concepts
- Proactively suggest new product ideas based on consumer needs or innovation strategy
- Actively look for external technologies and capabilities to apply for internal prototypes (if applicable)
- Contributes to innovation by:
- Leading ideations based on category innovation strategy or consumer insights.
- Attending product research to understand consumer feedback on the new products.
- Making prototypes against new product ideas.
- Presenting the new product ideas and prototypes to category teams.
- Actively searching for external new drug delivery technologies for the application of new products.
- He/She is instrumental in developing and testing the composition and physical attributes of new products for a stable and process robust formulation.
- He/she is also critical for contribution for innovation and identifying technologies for new product ideas.

Skills & Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelors Degree
- Preferred: Bachelors degree in Pharmacy/ Chemical Engineering /Science with 0+ years of experience in formulation development or manufacturing process development in consumer or pharmaceutical industries.
- Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Industrial Pharmacy/ Chemical Engineering /Science with 0+ years of experience in formulation or manufacturing process development in consumer or pharmaceutical industries.
- Ability to work hands-on in a laboratory setting
- Must be passionate about innovation, research and continuous learning.
- Ability to be a fast learner
- Ability to work with cross-functional team in a rapidly changing environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) & data analysis
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently on multiple projects under aggressive timeline
- Strong computer & digital skills - Microsoft Office, DOE Software, modeling & simulation
