The departments of BioMolecular Research and Structural Biology, within the Protein Science Organization are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and versatile individual with expertise in molecular biology and cell culture to join us as a Scientist 2.
The selected individual will be responsible for advancing our nucleic acid construct generation and recombinant protein expression capabilities using state-of-the-art molecular and cell biology tools and techniques.
In this collaborative role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with other scientists and group leaders within and outside our department to fulfill protein production needs. This is an on-site role based in South San Francisco, CA.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and generate DNA constructs using molecular biology tools
- Optimize cloning, construct generation and expression protocols, schedule requests and carry out troubleshooting when necessary
- Use manual or automated protocols to carry out nucleic acid isolation
- Use creative and innovative approaches to support and enable the expression of both straightforward and challenging protein targets
- Work with informatics systems to manage requests, upload experimental data, and share results with team members via email and/or presentations Required qualifications
- Expertise with latest advances in molecular cloning and DNA sequence analysis techniques
- Desire to learn new techniques, think critically, analyze results and plan experiments
- Strong drive to pilot and implement new approaches and techniques to improve existing cloning and expression processes or implement new ones
- Experience with routine cloning, PCR and nucleic acid isolation techniques
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team-oriented setting
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Applicants with a Masters degree in the Biological Sciences should have at least 2-3 years of scientific experience and applicants with a PhD degree (Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry) should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience Preferred qualifications
- Expertise with automation and high-throughput process development
- Experience with biochemical assays and/or protein expression is highly preferred.
Pay Rate Range: $40-54/hr. Salary will be commensurate with experience
