The Medical Affairs Heme/Derm TA lead will provide Global medical leadership and expertise to all US and Global Medical Affairs activities and to cross-functional activities within the Heme/Derm TA, leading strategic planning and tactical execution, to further the Medical Affairs mission to maximize patient outcomes by setting and continuously advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care. Additionally this individual will provide strategic input to the overall Heme/Derm TA global development portfolio bringing real life HCP and patient perspective. Looking for experience in Hematology and / or Dermatology

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

General:
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Medical Affairs strategy, plan and activities within the Heme/Derm TA (various disease such as ITP, PV/PF, BP) aligning with cross-functional colleagues including Marketing, Commercial New Product Planning, Market Access, Patient services, Global Clinical Development, and Global Clinical Operations
  • Develop and continuously maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise with all diseases and products within the Heme/Derm TA and be acknowledged internally and externally as a Heme/Derm expert. Be an expert presenter, facilitator and/or discussant at advisory boards, HCP roundtables etc.

 

External:
  • Drive the identification and development of productive collaborations with clinical experts, KOLs, other important customers and stakeholders, including professional organizations
  • Initiate and support high impact medical activities, such as advisory boards, congress symposia, hospital formulary meetings, speaker educational programs and payer market access education
  • Support the development and execution of publication plans, aligned with scientific communications, to ensure timely and impactful data dissemination. 
  • Identify and implement appropriate high-impact medical research projects to support the business objectives, including sponsored and investigator-initiated projects
  • Attend appropriate national and international meetings and congresses to gather intelligence, assist personal education, ensuring to utilize these opportunities to develop relationships with important customers

 

Internal:
  • Coordinate the implementation of medical affairs practices, and systematic information gathering to assess new indications, the treating community, patient pathways, diagnostic practices and management strategies in relevant disease areas
  • In conjunction with clinical development and operations support clinical study development, feasibility assessment, initiation and ongoing management to achieve recruitment and study objectives
  • Be an organizational leader and develop collaborative relationships with cross functional teams in US and globally
  • Managing talent  and providing directions to a group of Assoc/Med Dirs supporting various Heme/Derm disease portfolio
  • Coordinate the identification of patients in relevant diseases for inclusion in future clinical research projects and disease registries
  • Actively engage with all relevant cross-functional teams including science, clinical development and operations, commercial and market access, providing medical leadership to development, pre-launch, launch and post-launch strategy
  • Foster an inclusive team environment within Heme/Derm TA medical affairs, including with Scientific Communications, HEOR, Medical information, Medical Operations and field-based Medical Research Liaison Team, ensuring strategic and tactical alignment
  • Support cross-functional teams to ensure operations are patient-focused, including rapidly responding to internal and external requests and provide medical affairs support to all stakeholders.
  • Conduct and provide medical leadership to training programs to field-based teams and other functions and prepare staff to handle interactions with customers
  • Systematically capture, distil and proactively communicate key HCP/KOL insights and activities within and Senior Management
  • Ensure medical accuracy of Medical Affairs activities, including advisory boards and scientific expert meetings, studies, publications, scientific congress activities, medical education, medical information content and medical field programs.    
  • Ensure all medical affairs activities maintain the highest standards, comply with applicable pharmaceutical regulation, as well as policies and procedures

 

Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to develop and maintain a high level of knowledge in complex disease areas, treatments and clinical development plans
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately and effectively evaluate medical/scientific literature and landscape to develop effective medical affairs strategies.
  • Experience in developing, communicating and implementing a comprehensive medical affairs plan
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive collaborations with medical experts
  • Critical, creative, strategic and proactive thinking
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and when giving presentations
  • Embraces cross-functional working, values other functions
  • Able to thrive as part of a team and when working independently
  • Proven track record of delivering results that meet or exceed targeted objectives
  • Detailed understanding of regulations and practices, including related to industry interactions with healthcare professionals and product access
  • Willingness to travel, approximately 40% of time including international travel

 

Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Medical degree (M.D.) required with US Board Certification
  • Board Certification in Hematology, Oncology, Immunology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, or other sub-specialty preferred
  • 7+ years industry experience
  • US Experience in clinical practice
  • Hematology, Dermatology, immunology or Rheumatology clinical practice experience or specific biopharmaceutical global industry experience required
  • Rare disease experience desirable
  • Experience in Medical affairs, clinical research, and development
