Job Description


The Senior Strategic Buyer will support the local site to source strategic materials and services, support new program introductions, evaluate the supply base, and implement strategic initiatives that deliver value to company through cost savings, process improvements, supplier innovation, and supplier management, to help gain competitive advantages and meet customer needs.

II. Basic Function:

The position is responsible for supporting the strategic initiatives in alignment with the Global Procurement Organization and product/program development projects at the site, working closely with cross functional teams to implement cost savings, support product launches and mitigate risk to the business. In addition, this role will evaluate the existing supply base to identify opportunities which deliver cost savings and the highest quality to support the goals and objectives as established by Global Procurement, Site Operations and Key functions.

III. Specific Activities, and Responsibilities:

Perform, lead, and improve processes listed below:
  • Identify and support site-level and global procurement initiatives for cost savings, contract opportunities, supplier quality and risk mitigation of single sourced materials and services.
  • Participates and supports new product and program launches to influence sourcing decision and purchase materials and services as needed to meet project timelines.
  • Manages site spend.
  • Performs routine deep spend analysis to understand indirect spend variance and find cost reduction opportunities through collaborations with Category Management.
  • Supports site reporting to the Global Procurement Organization.
  • Participates in or may lead cross-functional initiatives to reduce cost through RFPs / RFIs and improve quality for internal and external customers.
  • Develop key supplier relationships to serve the local sites needs.
  • Supports the local Capital Expenditure projects in close collaboration with local teams and Global Procurement for supplier selection, negotiation, and contract implementation.
  • Support Global Procurement strategic imperatives.
  • Negotiates pricing and contracts, ensures compliance with contracts and global company policies and procedures.
  • Process requisitions and place orders after approval with company approved suppliers to obtain materials and services required to support product launches, dual sourcing efforts and cost savings initiatives.
  • Communicate material and service availability, lead-time, supplier capacity & capability updates to stakeholders and take ownership for entire procurement process, resolving all discrepancies from placement of order, through receipt, payment of goods and returns.
  • Provides support to determine root cause for poor vendor performance and late deliveries.
  • Provides support to resolve supplier quality issues and take corrective action.
  • Notifies internal customers of supplier changes notifications, assume role as liaison with supplier to obtain documents and material required to approve change. Provide frequent updates to stakeholders impacted by change
  • Responsible for ensuring the supplier adheres to the guidelines specified on the purchase order and / or contract.
  • Prepare various reports for cost savings tracking, supplier spend analysis and performance.
  • Comply with all site and Corporate SOPs and documented processes.
  • Ensures full compliance to company policy acquiring CDA and SCOC signed off by all suppliers, discussing with Legal in case of change needed, and keeping track of their status in the local database.
  • Complies with and follows all procedures within the company Security, EHS, Global Procurement and Global Trade policies.
