A new product development team for the Surgical Innovation business in the company's Minimally Invasive Therapies Group is seeking a Sr. Reliability Engineer. The Sr. Reliability Engineer, to work out of North Haven, shall lead the development of reliability testing methodologies for electromechanical components and subsystems, test methods, and validation activities to best meet the project’s requirements. This position will be a part of a R&D Reliability Engineering team, and will interface with cross-functional team members, various suppliers, and test laboratories.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop procedures, equipment’s, and specific protocols for reliability testing of robot electronic/mechanical components.
- In combination with functional engineering initiate and/or assist component/system failure root cause analysis and its mitigation.
- Establish testing priorities, i.e. defining and implementing those test activities that yields greatest return on efforts in terms of overall systems reliability and meets organizational requirements.
- Support System and Sub-System test method development and release.
- Support System and Sub-System test method validation activities and documentation throughout the program.
- Conducts development and validation of methods, fixtures, platforms, and software for reliability tests
- Conduct moderately complex tests, analyze, and summarize test results, verify test accuracy, and determine if additional testing is needed.
- Predict test performance, potential failures, and provide required product / design input when applicable.
- Identify issues and develop recommendations/suggestions for solutions to communicate to design engineers.
- Implement and maintain data collection or self-diagnostic test systems and scripts for environmental testing of electrical components and subsystems,
- Research and review vendor data to leverage useful life and field failure data to support reliability characterization and demonstration.
- Generate and release in Agile technical Reliability Demonstration Reports with statistically demonstrated reliability statements for submission to regulatory agencies.
Education & Experience:
- S. in Electrical Engineering is preferred. Advanced degree is a plus.
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and proven hands-on Electrical skills is required.
- Demonstrated experience with testing and evaluating electrical performance, failures, and determination of the useful life for complex electro-mechanical and robotic systems, test and measurement equipment, analysis methodologies and test documentation is required.
- Demonstrated experience developing test fixtures and data monitoring apparatus for multiple electrical components or subsystems in parallel is required.
- In depth knowledge of root cause analysis for electrical components is required.
- Proficiency in setting up and using electrical measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, thermocouples, and power analyzers is required.
- Demonstrated experience with creating electrical schematics pertaining to test system and electrical component configuration is required.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2 years of experience.
- Hands on electrical skills with developing and using electrical test equipment.
- Proficiency in setting up and using electrical measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, thermocouples, and power analyzers.
- Passionate about knowing how and why things fail with strong trouble-shooting skills.
- Strong technical writing skills with a detail-orientated mindset.
- Collaboration skill with cross functional teams, creative problem solving and taking initiative while driving results.
Nice to Have:
- Experience of new product development (NPD) in the medical Device industrial.
- Experience in IEC60601 standards.
- Knowledge of statistics and software, such as Minitab or ReliaSoft.
- Experience in Reliability engineering and Failure analysis.
- Previous experience with robotics.
- Experience with Linux system, e.g., Ubuntu, QNX
- Knowledge and the application of Creo CAD, MATLAB, and LabVIEW software
- Experience with setting up and maintaining test fixturing and electrical systems in thermal/environmental chambers for ALT/HALT/HASS is required.
Working Conditions:
- Work usually performed on-site in an office setting, laboratory, and/or surgical laboratory.
- Travel – Occasion travel may be required.
