Pay rate range: $36 - 42.90/hr
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented (Senior) Research Associate/Associate Scientist to join Immuno-oncology research group within the Sciences Research department. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the research and development of oncology therapeutics. S/he will be responsible for drug screening, contribute to the day-to-day laboratory procedures, execute fit-for-purpose or hypothesis-based experiments, conduct various cell-based immuno- and biochemical assays utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies to advance drug candidates. The position will require experience with mammalian cell culture, handling of reporter cell lines, primary immune cells, blood samples, tumor cell lines and patient derived tissues. The preferred candidate will display the ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. S/he should possess the drive to learn, grow in fast-paced work environment and to contribute to a dynamic culture that embraces teamwork and innovation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducting and interpreting key experiments for the discovery and pre-clinical evaluation of drug candidates
- Work with senior personnel to define relevant experimental strategies
- Troubleshoot and optimize assays as needed, identifying and applying novel techniques or protocols from the scientific literature
- Maintain keen awareness of technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve assay performance
- Participate in discussions and timely deliver key data needed to inform decision-making
- Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, work cross-functionally in a highly collaborative team environment
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- 5+ years with BS degree or 2+ years with MS degree in a related scientific discipline. A work history demonstrating direct participation in biopharmaceutical drug discovery is highly preferred
- Basic cell biology, deep immunology knowledge and technical expertise in broad range of biochemical and immunological techniques (e.g. cell proliferation/survival, apoptosis, reporter-based assays, ELISA, flow cytometry, western blot, CRISPR KO);
- Knowledge and expertise in T cell biology, functional assays (e.g., activation, mixed lymphocyte cultures, cytotoxicity) and primary cell isolation and culture techniques
- Proficiency with basic data analysis and presentation programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Graphpad Prism, flowJo);
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and technical) and interpersonal skills are required
- Highly collaborative, fast-learner, think critically, ability to integrate into a high-paced multidisciplinary environment and work resourcefully to meet teams goal and project timelines
Required Years of Experience: 2-5 years of scientific experience
Top 3 Required Skill Sets: 1. high scientific rigor 2. a broad range of technical skills in immunology, protein chemistry and cell biology techniques 3. Motivated, fast learner, strong interpersonal skills and ability to think critically
Nice to Have Skill Sets: Prior experience in drug discovery programs; experience in T-cell biology is a plus; evaluation of new technologies and assay development to accelerate discovery activities is a plus; assay development experience (e.g., evaluation of IC50/EC50 of candidate molecules/antibodies in cell-based assays, dose ranging studies in primary immune cells for desirable phenotypes, etc.)
