Job Description

  • Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) Department is in need of (2) Testing Technologist I.
  • Performs high complexity testing of laboratory samples, documents and reports test results in compliance with departmental procedures and applicable regulations while meeting established production demands.
  • Accurately and consistently perform assigned laboratory test procedures as outlined in established standard operating procedures.
  • Uses proper techniques for sample handling and processing to ensure the validity of test results.
  • Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Ensures training qualifications for independent testing are current and accurate.
  • Learns complex concepts, technical specifications, and written procedures utilizing a combination of self-paced and hands-on training techniques.
  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies: processes controls at defined intervals; evaluates control results; takes appropriate actions to resolve failures, and accurately documents all quality control activities.
  • Performs instrument calibrations and maintenance according to established schedules and procedures; verifies successful completion prior to testing.
  • Accurately identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  • Maintains technical knowledge of complex automated testing equipment to resolve instrument and analytical errors or testing inconsistencies.
  • Reviews test result data for accuracy and compliance to standard operating procedures and regulatory standards prior to release.
  • Recognizes invalid test results, takes appropriate corrective action, and documents all findings.
  • Follows cGMP regulations and laboratory policies on material handling; make sure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates.
  • Inspect, inventory, and store reagents and supplies when needed. Verify material expiration dates and take appropriate actions to limit waste.
  • Follow GMP for documentation using ALCOA; ensure regulations pertaining to records, reports, and data integrity policies are met.
  • Document all errors and corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Work as a member of a team responsible for completing the Plasma Testing Laboratory daily workload.
  • Works efficiently to consistently complete heavy workloads while maintaining all quality and safety standards.
  • Disinfect work areas and empty biohazardous waste.
  • Follow CLIA, FDA, EMAand safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
  • Maintains donor confidence and protects the company by keeping information confidential.
  • 3rd Shift: Mon-Fri --10: 00 pm - 6: 30 am
  • Shift Differential: (USD)2.50/hr.

  • Must have the ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.
  • Must interact with other departments.
  • Must have knowledge of dilutions, ratios and other basic laboratory math.  
  • Strong organization skills and legible handwriting are essential.  
  • Must speak, read and write English.  
  • Must have the ability to apply rational thinking and understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions, and the capacity to identify and troubleshoot problems within regulatory guidelines and standard operating procedures.

  • Requires no previous related experience.

  • The Testing Technologists will go through New Hire Orientation which is for 2 ½ days and then for the rest of the week, they will read SOPs and work with a trainer. Once this training is complete, they will transition to their shift where the rest of the training will occur.
  • The New Hire Orientation schedule is as follows:   8: 30am – 5pm. Depending on when the orientation is scheduled, the contractors may have to go to another location for those few days. 

  • BA/BS degree in a Life Science is acceptable if CLIA requirements to perform high complexity testing are met.

Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or  
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) or equivalent.  
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced laboratory environment.  
  • Ability to coordinate eyes and hand to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with speed.
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, talk and hear.  
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move light (20 pounds) to moderately heavy (50 pounds).  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perceiption and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic and caustic chemicals, cold temperatures  (? -20? C), and frequently to biological hazards.  
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment and adhere to universal precautions.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
