Job Description

An established research organisation is seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead the operational delivery of a busy, multi-disciplinary lab environment. Supporting a team of around 80 scientists, this role is central to ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day lab activities, while also contributing to the planning and setup of a new facility in Central London.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the demands of a high-functioning lab and can balance technical oversight with strategic planning.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Overseeing lab infrastructure, equipment, and services to ensure optimal performance
  • Managing contractors, suppliers, and service providers across core lab systems
  • Leading procurement, inventory control, and maintenance scheduling
  • Coordinating lab refurbishments and contributing to the design of future facilities
  • Acting as the go-to contact for lab-related issues and emergency response
  • Supporting onboarding and training for new staff and visitors
  • Collaborating with scientists to resolve technical issues and streamline workflows
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with safety protocols

What You’ll Bring
  • Experience managing operations in large, complex lab environments (80–120 personnel)
  • Strong understanding of both biological and chemical sample workflows
  • Background as a bench scientist, with progression into lab leadership
  • Familiarity with small molecule research and related lab infrastructure
  • NEBOSH / IOSH Managing Safely qualification (or equivalent)
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain high safety standards
