SSR/PSR position in the Spatial Omics Lab

Who We Are:

The Department of Pathology is embedded within the Research and Early Development Organization and works to ensure that strategies for the treatment and cure of disease are based on accurate analyses of pathogenetic mechanisms. The Department Pathologists collaborate with and provide expert support to our core laboratories and research scientists in the discovery, characterization, and development of novel therapeutic products for a variety of human diseases. These include diseases caused by malignant transformation, or dysfunction of the nervous or immune systems. Our state-of-the-art labs are equipped with automated instrumentation, which evaluates and deploys existing tissue technologies for biomarker research, discovery, and assay development, as well as performing external due diligence of new assay, imaging, and analysis platforms. 

This position is embedded within the Spatial Omics lab core lab in the Pathology Department. The Spatial Omics core lab is focused on spatial transcriptomics (ST), spatial proteomics (SP) and higher order immunofluorescent multiplexing (4+markers), providing scientific expertise for tissue-based assays across the pathology core labs. The pathology Spatial Omics core is a state-of-the art lab equipped with automated platforms and various ST and PT technologies with the objective to develop tissue based assays to support discovery research as well as early and late stage programs. Another focus of the Spatial Omics lab is the evaluation and implementation of new ST and PT technologies.

Duties
  • The main duties of the position include designing, planning and executing tissue based assays for projects supporting different therapeutic areas.
  • The individual in this position will independently conduct studies from inception through assay development/experimentation to data interpretation, data analysis and reporting.
  • Candidates should enjoy associated challenges such as implementing new technologies and workflows as well as working across functional groups.
  • Other job relevant tasks include data acquisition (microscopy, scanning), image analysis, photographic documentation, recording, compilation, interpretation and presentation of results.

Skills
  • In addition to strong scientific credentials, candidates must have a record of productivity as well as relevant professional experience.
  • Candidates must enjoy handling multiple collaborative projects and working in a fast paced team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, organization, record keeping, problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are therefore essential.
  • The position requires a high degree of independence and thorough understanding and proficient use of tissue based protein and RNA biomarker assays, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) or In situ hybridization (ISH).
  • Candidates should have a strong desire to perform bench-work as well as data acquisition and data analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with microscopy and histology is a must.
  • Experience with ST and SP technologies such as 10x Visium, Nanostring GeoMx or MERFISH is a plus.
