Job Description

Position Summary:
The Laboratory Operations Technician II will use organizational skills to support and enhance the day-to-day operations of the laboratory facilities. These activities include ensuring that supplies are available when needed, lab equipment is routinely maintained and functions per manufacturers’ specifications, shipping and receiving of all materials are managed daily to meet
the needs of the departments, and the lab and shipping environments are well-organized and safe to support scientific research & development.

The Laboratory Technician must have experience in inventory control and routine lab maintenance and services. This role requires the individual to perform work independently and as a member of a broader lab services and operations team to ensure all responsibilities are completed in a timely manner.

Duties include day-to-day service and maintenance of the company’s laboratories in three general areas:
• Equipment management (lab equipment maintenance, performance, and reliability)
• Laboratory services (supply inventory tracking & control, procurement, material
management, biological sample management, biohazardous waste management), and on?site lab support activities (shipping and receiving, glass washing, autoclaving, small
instrumentation maintenance and calibration, and lab organization and safety standards
compliance)
• Implementation and use of software solutions for biological sample and supplies
inventory control

Laboratory Operations Technicians will perform tasks related to shipping of outbound materials from the labs with evolving scopes based on business needs.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Support all laboratory services work including materials, chemical, and equipment management and tasks as assigned by the manager.
• Dispose of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps, and other potentially hazardous materials according to local and Federal regulations.
• Perform glass washing and autoclaving activities.
• Support shipping and receiving of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and biological samples.
• Maintain shipping and lab cleanliness by performing daily lab walk-through.
• Perform weekly safety walk-throughs and partner with Environmental Health & Safety to remediate any issues.
• Assist in writing operating procedures for laboratory equipment and instructions for routine laboratory services and maintenance.
• Perform routine laboratory maintenance and assist in equipment management and ongoing maintenance such as scheduling refrigerator cleaning, freezer defrost and incubator decontamination, materials reorganization, and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment, etc.
• Interface with vendors for routine and emergency maintenance as needed.
• Interface with vendors to meet consumable delivery timelines and backorder
replacement.
• Work as a liaison between lab personnel and Facilities if fluctuations in demand of supply of liquid nitrogen, CO2 tanks, and dry ice supply arise.
• Regularly update reference materials (SOPS, Work Instructions, Job Aids, etc.) with informational changes and identify ways to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity through process improvements.
• Participate in project and lab services meetings.
• Work as a member of the lab support team; perform routine and other duties as assigned.
• Other duties as requires.


Requirements:
• 2-3 years of experience in a scientific laboratory or lab services role in a university or pharma/biotech environment
• DOT/IATA Professional certification (certification class available on the job).
• GHS and Hazardous Communication
• HAZWOPER certification a plus, but not required.
• Experience with shipping and receiving of GMP materials.
• Experience with purchasing and inventory management preferred.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and experience working in BSL2 laboratory environments
• Customer oriented, excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization.
• Ability to execute duties with high attention to detail and to adjust workload based on priorities as the needs arise.
• Must have exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
• Ability to work independently and be proactive with a “can-do” attitude.
• Ability to read, interpret, and comply with documents such as internal SOPs, operating and maintenance instructions, and company policies.
• Must be comfortable with biological specimen handling.
• Knowledge of VMI. ULS IM, and Oracle is a plus
