Safety and Compliance Manager - Laboratory

Job Description
You’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, managing regulatory relationships, and acting as the appointed Biological Safety Officer (BSO).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead health and safety compliance across scientific operations
- Act as the appointed BSO, providing expert guidance and oversight
- Develop and maintain safety systems, including SOPs, risk assessments, and training programs
- Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Maintain compliance calendars, legal registers, and documentation for regulatory bodies
- Represent the organisation in interactions with regulators and inspectors
- Support planning and execution of the site transition to London HQ
Requirements
- Recent experience as a Biological Safety Officer (BSO)
- Strong background in pharmaceutical laboratory environments
- Experience supporting large-scale lab operations (80–120 personnel)
- Proven ability to lead audits, manage risk, and deliver training
- NEBOSH Diploma and Grad/Tech IOSH (or equivalent)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to operate independently and influence safety culture across diverse teams
