Job Description

Day to day operations oversight

  • Oversee lab and facilities daily operations and teams, provide backup to team members as needed (vacation coverage, etc.)
  • Provide support and guidance to facilities and operations team and ensure efficient and effective collaboration with other groups and completion of responsibilities
  • Serve as escalation point for lab operations and facilities issues, ensure function is operating smoothly
  • Oversee facilities maintenance activities and manage facilities and operational contracts for the duration
    1. Inclusive of scheduling and escorting vendors as needed
  • Work closely with HSE function to review and assist with implementation of required HSE policies
  • Availability for off-hours work to support facility and operation, including emergency response and alarm receipt.  To include ability to come onsite off-hours as part of response.
  • Work with IT and internal Research and Development teams to ensure routine needs are being met
  • Work with Technical Operations team to assist with any facilities-related requests, including bringing in vendors when required (GMP space and GMP-adjacent)
  • Administer company ELN solution
  • Routinely communicate with research and tech ops leadership and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Oversight of expansion project
    1. Serve as primary point of contact for expansion project, including ensuring timely delivery of requested business information
    2. Track expansion project milestones and timelines, including participation in OACs and routine walkthroughs
    3. Communicate expansion project status to stakeholders and work together to resolve any questions or timeline issues
    4. Ensure space readiness for move and coordinate efficient move of existing equipment and installation of new equipment
    5. Coordinate with other teams, including HSE and construction team, on timing of key activities such as permitting.  Facilitate provision of required information to support.
  • Integration activities
    1. Assist with Lab Ops, Facilities and IT integration efforts, including evaluation and implementation of Novartis systems, policies and procedures to ensure “fit for purpose” and work with stakeholders to revise if not
  • Other
    1. Other facilities and operations activities as needed to ensure continuous facility operation, progress on expansion project and integration
    2. Service is expected to be provided onsite and emergency off-hours availability is required for alarm and other response

Key Qualifications:

  • Broad experience in running lab operations and facilities at a life sciences company
  • Experience with EHS
  • Experience with operation and management of GMP spaces
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, especially Excel and Powerpoint
  • Familiarity with facility systems such as BMS and CMMS
  • Demonstrated communication skills with all levels, including leadership
  • Scientific background prior to ops work a plus
  • Experience with radioactive labs or integrations a plus
