Technical Translator, Mandarin-English

Position Summary

Rapidly growing Boston based biotech is seeking a highly skilled Technical Translator to support the accurate and timely translation of critical scientific, regulatory, clinical, and business documents between Mandarin Chinese and English. This individual will serve as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and external translation vendors, ensuring high-quality translations that support business priorities and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate combines exceptional language proficiency with strong project management skills and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced biotechnology environment.

Key Responsibilities

Translation Management

  • Translate and review scientific, technical, regulatory, clinical, operational, and corporate documents between Mandarin Chinese and English.
  • Ensure translations accurately convey technical concepts, terminology, context, and intent.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology and style across translated materials.
  • Perform quality review and validation of translated content for accuracy, completeness, and readability.

Vendor Oversight

  • Manage relationships with external translation vendors and language service providers.
  • Coordinate translation assignments, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Establish quality standards and monitor vendor performance.
  • Review vendor output and provide feedback to drive continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Regulatory, Clinical Development, CMC, Quality, Legal, and other functions to understand translation needs and priorities.
  • Help prioritize translation requests based on business impact, regulatory deadlines, and organizational objectives.
  • Facilitate communication between English-speaking and Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.
  • Support cross-functional teams in preparing translated materials for regulatory submissions, meetings, and business interactions.

Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain translation processes, glossaries, and terminology databases.
  • Identify opportunities to improve translation efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Support implementation of translation technologies and best practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Native or near-native fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience translating technical, scientific, regulatory, or pharmaceutical content.
  • Demonstrated experience managing external translation vendors.
  • Strong understanding of scientific and regulatory terminology.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, or healthcare organizations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory submission documents and health authority communications.
  • Experience working with China-based stakeholders, regulatory agencies, or business partners.
  • Knowledge of translation management systems and translation memory tools.
