Location: The incumbent will have a primary place of residence within the greater Boston, though there is no geographic limit to the sales territory.

Comp: Base salary is around $160K to $165K, plus commission. Total compensation may be around $200K after commission 

A scientific degree is not required. They mainly need someone who understands the services and can speak credibly about microbiology testing and related service offerings.

A global CDMO, that provides drug substance, drug product, and analytical services across the entire drug lifecycle is looking to add a Business Development Manager to their team in the greater Boston area. 

Job Overview
We are looking for an ambitious and energetic Business Development Manager to grow our business based in the Boston area, which includes microbiological, environmental monitoring, and analytical services. These services support pharmaceutical and medical device clientele.
The primary function of this role is to aggressively identify and secure new accounts for the company. Additionally, the person in this role will leverage existing customer relationships to penetrate customer locations that are not currently doing business with the our Boston area site.
The incumbent will have a primary place of residence within the greater Boston CSA, though there is no geographic limit to the sales territory.

Responsibilities
* Aggressively pursue business opportunities for the services offered through prospecting, building strong client relationships, forging new business partnerships, nurturing and qualifying leads, and maintaining high visibility within networking and trade organizations within the defined territory.
* Identify industry and customer needs and actively provide solutions that will generate value for the customer.
* Represent the site at events to generate leads and gather market intelligence.
* Remain integral to the ongoing relationships between groups internal to the company and the external customer.
* Lead the initiative to introduce new projects and business opportunities pursuant to the company’s overall business strategy, both at existing and new accounts.
* Collaborate with Marketing for effective lead generation to support sales targets.
* Promptly and completely capture information associated with leads and opportunities in SalesForce.com.
* Assist new customers and prospects using scripts to ask relevant questions, capturing the responses in SalesForce.com for accurate and timely quote generation and a seamless handoff to Operations.
* Continuously develop expertise regarding the site’s services and industry trends.
Qualifications / Skills
* Entrepreneurial personality, energetic, and takes personal responsibility in accomplishing the objectives of the business.
* Strong hunting skills.
* Proven ability to sell microbiological, environmental monitoring, and analytical services to pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
* Ability to inspire customer confidence, promote and develop strong client to business relationships, and become the provider of choice for existing and new clients.
* Ability to build strong relationships and effectively engage across multiple disciplines to generate business opportunities, including scientists, technical management, Quality Assurance, project / account management, and procurement.
* Ability to identify and engage decision makers.
* Ability to handle multiple prospects and new customers, including effective time management, strong organization skills, effective use of resources, and assessment of priorities to opportunities.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to communicate internally and externally with the credibility necessary to influence sales and customer decisions.
* Understanding of current good manufacturing practices, cGMP, requirements as well as regulatory and environmental issues relevant to the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
* Solid team player who can maintain cohesiveness between different functional groups.
* Ability to work effectively within a multicultural environment.
* High level of energy, creativity, and personal motivation.
* Determination and persistence to build a business.
* Prior experience using SalesForce.com and its dashboards to manage a balanced sales funnel.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
* Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in physical or life sciences is required.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in business development, with a proven track record in selling microbiological, environmental monitoring, and analytical services.
* This is a remote position with 50 percent travel.
* The person in this role must be based in the greater Boston Combined Statistical Area, including Worcester, MA, Manchester, NH, and Providence, RI.
* Daily work will be performed in a home office setting. Position requires visual acuity, talking, and fingering. Walking and standing are required occasionally.
