Job Description

Target PR Range: 19-25/hr DOE

Summary:
The main function of a machinist is to set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. A typical machinist is responsible for fabricating and modifying parts to make or repair tools or machines.

Job Responsibilities:
* Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
* Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
* Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
* Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
* Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
* Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.

Skills:
* Verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
* Basic ability to work independently and manage ones time.
* Basic knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
* Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
* Basic knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.

Education/Experience:
* High school diploma or GED required.
* NIMS license/certification preferred.
* 2-4 years experience required.
